Position Summary

Receives practical training and assists in processing bakery products such as breads, cakes, cookies, bagels, and decorated goods in a large-volume/wholesale environment. Trains in the use of processing equipment to ensure proficiency in setup and operation, along with finishing and decorating bakery products. Assists with scaling ingredients, making products to ensure uniform size and quality, and taste testing to maintain standards. Advises supervisor on recipe variables, performs proper storage techniques, and follows standards for cleaning equipment and work areas. Receives training in distribution, arrangement, and delivery of baked goods. The position is located in Food Stores.

During the 18-month training program, schedules may change based on training needs. All positions are designated as critical; in case of university closure due to emergencies, employees are expected to report to work or work remotely if approved, to serve the MSU community.

Minimum Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent with technical training and experience.
• One year of satisfactory baking experience or equivalent training and experience.
• Standards of personal hygiene compliant with sanitation rules.
• Occasional lifting of 26 to 75 pounds.

Desired Qualifications

• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in refrigeration/freezer environments (-7 degrees).
• Serve Safe certification.
• Retail and cake decorating experience.
• Ability to work with allergens (nuts, flours, latex gloves).
• Valid driver’s license for deliveries.
