About The Company

Birley Bakery is the newest opening from the club owner and entrepreneur Robin Birley; owner of prestigious private members’ clubs 5 Hertford Street and Oswald’s in London.

Opening summer 2025, Birley Bakery will be located on the Upper East Side’s Madison Avenue, and aims to create a warm and welcoming environment, inspired by the classic concept of Boulangerie-Patisserie. We will fulfill the need of every household craving exceptional quality, by delivering simple yet elegantly crafted bread, pastries, and desserts.

Position Summary

Assisting the Pastry Head Chef and all Pastry Sous Chefs in the production of food to the required standard, especially bread and viennoiserie.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the Pastry Head Chef and all Pastry Sous Chefs.
  • Keep the uniform clean, presentable, and in good condition; maintain high personal hygiene standards.
  • Compile the daily mise en place.
  • Ensure all food is cooked and presented to high quality standards as devised by the Head Pastry Chef.
  • Promote effective teamwork.
  • Cook all requested food items to expected standards.
  • Prepare attractive food displays when required.
  • Receive, prepare, and cook orders.
  • Clean and maintain pastry kitchen areas, equipment, and tools according to safety standards.
  • Report any health or hygiene hazards.
  • Handle all food items properly according to health & hygiene procedures.
  • Place food orders as needed for daily production.
  • Ensure efficient stock rotation.
  • Attend or conduct training sessions.
  • Complete required documentation per safety standards.
  • Be flexible for external duties like events and promotions.
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks as directed by your manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of hospitality or café experience.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Calm and solutions-oriented under pressure, especially during high-volume service.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor aligned with a premium brand.
  • Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain one promptly).
  • Passionate, curious, sincere, entrepreneurial, driven, empathetic, and highly motivated.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Flexible with job demands and open to completing various tasks.
  • Ability to operate all bakery equipment.
  • Operate with grace under pressure.
  • Handle equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work varied hours/days as needed.
  • Stand for 8-10 hours daily.
