Job summary

Common Market Co-op in Frederick, MD is seeking a bakery teammate to respond to customer requests and prepare baked goods for display. You will wrap, label, and stock bakery items while maintaining strict safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer requests in the bakery department.
  • Prepare baked goods and other items for sale; wrap and display products.
  • Maintain proper food-handling procedures and health standards.
  • Follow recipes and keep products at high quality.
  • Complete logs, temperature recording, labeling and dating of items.
  • Assist with opening/closing procedures and clean work areas.
  • Ensure stock is replenished and shifts are covered as needed.
  • Provide attentive, friendly service to customers.

Description

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responds and attends to customer requests in the bakery department.
  • Responsible for various duties including preparing baked goods and other items for sale, arranging and wrapping bakery products, and placing bakery items in display cases.
  • Knowledgeable of proper food-handling procedures.
  • Follows established recipes and maintains quality of the highest standard.
  • Follows Health Department regulations and department sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Completes task logs and opening and closing procedures.
  • Completes temperature logs, labeling, and dating all stored products.
  • Discards product after expiration date is reached and completes shrink log.
  • Removes trash, compost and recyclable promptly.
  • Replenishes product quickly, ensuring key products are never out of stock.
  • Attends to spills and keeps appropriate prep/storage areas in a clean, orderly condition.
  • Uses equipment safely and follows safe knife-handling procedures.
  • Provides attentive, timely, and friendly service to all internal and external customers at all times.
  • Builds and maintains customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the co-op.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

PREREQUISITES
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience preferred.
  • A minimum of one (1) year's experience in a retail environment strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of one (1) year's experience and familiarity with natural foods strongly preferred.

  • Solid numbers skills to accurately measure ingredients and determine baking times.

  • Flexibility to work any shift, including mornings, middays, evenings, and weekends.
ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must wear closed-toe, skid-resistant shoes; a head covering (hat, bandanna, etc.); and long pants.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures (approximately 20F - 95F)
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and climb.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Reliable access to transportation.
