Job summary

The Common Market in Frederick, MD is seeking a Bakery Associate to assist customers and prepare baked goods for display. You will wrap, stock, label, and present bakery items while ensuring clean, orderly prep and storage areas and adherence to safety procedures.

Responsibilities include following recipes, maintaining quality, logging temperatures and dates, and delivering friendly service to internal and external customers. Flexibility across shifts, including weekends, is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of retail experience preferred.
• Minimum 1 year experience and familiarity with natural foods preferred.
• Solid math skills to accurately measure ingredients and determine baking times.
• Desire to work cooperatively with others in a team.
• Capacity to deal with unexpected challenges and changes in one\'s environment.
• Creativity for developing new products or decorating confectionery.
• Adapts readily based on evolving co-op needs or in response to feedback.

• Attends to spills and keeps prep/storage areas clean and orderly.
• Uses equipment safely and follows safe knife-handling procedures.
• Provides attentive, timely, and friendly service to all internal and external customers at all times.
• Builds and maintains customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the co-op.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Must wear closed‑toe, skid‑resistant shoes; a head covering (hat, bandanna, etc.); and long pants.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures (approximately 20F - 95F)
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and climb.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
• Reliable access to transportation.
