Hernando County BOCC is seeking a skilled inspector/technician to support the Cross Connection Program, inspecting backflow devices and testing installations to ensure proper function and compliance.

The role includes premises inspections, hydrant testing, meter installation, and coordination with project managers to address violations and ensure safety standards are met. Strong computer skills and the ability to work independently are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent.
• Three (3) years’ experience in construction, inspection, operation and maintenance of water/wastewater utilities.
• Experience with Backflow Prevention and cross connection control preferred.

Responsabilités

• Inspects and tests all new backflow assemblies to ensure proper installation.
• Inspects customer premises for cross-connections.
• Inspects fire hydrants and water distribution lines for pressure holding.
• Installs and maintains detector check meters and investigates fire line issues.
• Inspects utility system for unauthorized work and takes corrective action.
• Tests, maintains, and repairs backflow assemblies and tests customer-owned assemblies when requested.
• Answers questions from contractors regarding backflow assemblies or utility construction.
• Investigates illegal connections with alternative water sources.
• Observe workmanship to ensure conformance with plans and safety standards.
