Job summary

The City of Fort Worth’s Water Department seeks a Cross Connection Specialist to protect our drinking water by identifying and preventing cross-connections in plumbing and irrigation systems. You will review plans, perform inspections, and ensure compliance with state and city requirements.

Ideal candidates have a Journeyman Plumber background and knowledge of cross-connection control, backflow prevention, and irrigation systems, with licensing in related areas.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED supplemented by specialized training in Water Utility Operation.
• Two (2) years of experience as a Journeyman Plumber.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of plumbing and irrigation systems to identify and eliminate potential cross-connections.
• Review plumbing, utility, building, and irrigation plans for compliance.
• Inspect new and modified irrigation systems for compliance with water conservation, irrigation, and cross-connection regulations.
• Apply and explain City and State cross-connection, plumbing, and irrigation requirements.
• Provide technical support to Water Department staff, contractors, developers, and property owners.
• Process inspection data and maintain accurate reports and documentation.
• Manage a high volume of inspections and plan reviews while providing professional customer service.

Pay Range: $29.89 - $33.21/hr. | $62,177- $69,085 annual compensation

The Water Department is looking for a Cross Connection Specialist to join our Customer Care Division and help protect Fort Worth’s drinking water supply. As a Cross Connection Specialist, you will play a critical role in identifying and preventing potential sources of contamination to the public water system.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED supplemented by specialized training in Water Utility Operation
• Two (2) years of experience as a Journeyman Plumber
• Valid Texas Driver’s License

Other Qualifications:

• Texas State Master Plumber License with a Water Safety Protection Specialist (W.S.P.S.) endorsement within one (1) year of employment
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) license
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an Irrigation Inspector license from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)

Preferred Qualifications:

• In-depth knowledge of the International Plumbing Code, Fort Worth Cross-Connection, and Plumbing codes
• Experience conducting plumbing, irrigation, or backflow inspections
• Experience reviewing technical plans and interpreting codes and regulations

The Cross-Connection Specialist job responsibilities include:

Working Conditions and Physical Demand

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions.

Medium Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
