Job summary

Nextdoor is seeking a Software Engineer to join our team, working with cross-functional partners to deliver high-quality, scalable backend services. You’ll operate in an AI-first environment and collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers.

You will contribute to backend systems with Python, Java, and Kotlin, leveraging Django or Spring, Docker, and Kubernetes. Occasional remote work is possible within the NYC metro area as part of a hybrid model.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
• Three years of experience as Software/Systems Engineer or related role, or five years with a Bachelor’s degree.
• Experience backend development for large-scale, low-latency web services using Python, Java, Kotlin; Django or Spring.

Responsibilities

• Write clean, efficient, well-documented code following industry best practices.
• Develop and execute unit, integration, and functional tests.
• Optimize code, improve system performance, and refactor applications.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for software applications and APIs.
• Implement security best practices and ensure software compliance.
• Utilize Git-based workflows and CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
• Participate in in-person Nextdoor events and team-building activities.
• Build in-person relationships and contribute to Nextdoor’s culture.
