Job summary

Surge is seeking a Backend Engineer to design and maintain high-performance APIs for its Web3 payments platform in New York, NY. You will work on payments, settlement, asset conversion, and identity flows across chains, and contribute to architecture reviews and incident response.

The role emphasizes hands-on TS development, cloud-based infrastructure, and deep CS fundamentals to build reliable, scalable backend services for dApps and partners.

Qualifications

• Production backend experience in a modern language; TypeScript preferred.
• Proficiency with TypeScript and ability to ramp quickly.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, APIs, and DB design.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong CS fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and systems design.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance APIs and backend services for the company's Web3 payments platform.
• Implement and evolve systems for payments, settlement, transaction routing, asset conversion, and identity/security flows across chains and providers.
• Build new backend features that improve product experience, conversion, and reliability for dApps and partners.
• Participate in system design, architecture reviews, and incident response to ensure reliability and fault tolerance.
• Write clean, well-tested code and contribute to code reviews and engineering standards.
