Job summary

Spade, a data and AI platform for financial services, is hiring a Backend Engineer to own APIs and data systems at the heart of our enrichment platform. You'll work across the full backend stack, from developer-facing APIs to data pipelines, on a small high-ownership team shaping performance and reliability for billions of transactions.

The role supports both mid and senior levels, requiring 4+ years in backend Python, REST APIs, and AWS.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of backend Python experience in fast-paced environments.
• Proven ability to develop REST APIs and write performant SQL.
• Experience building with AWS infrastructure.
• Experience building systems from scratch and working autonomously in early-stage environments.
• Customer-focused mindset with problem-solving skills and ability to navigate ambiguity.
• Willingness to be mentored and grow professionally.
• Based in NYC with ability to work from the Flatiron office at least 2 days/week.

Responsibilities

• Own the APIs and data systems at the heart of our enrichment platform.
• Work across the full backend stack—from developer-facing APIs to data pipelines and platform services.
• Design and implement scalable systems to support product growth.
• Debug production issues across all stack levels.
• Collaborate to deliver value to customers and internal stakeholders.
