Job summary

WEX Mobility team builds mission-critical backend services and modern APIs for a leading fuel card platform. We design scalable systems using Java, Python, Kafka, Elasticsearch, AWS, and containerization in a cloud-native, agile environment.

The role emphasizes ownership, clean code, and collaboration across engineers and product partners to deliver reliable solutions with performance and data integrity at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of professional software development experience, preferably backend or distributed applications.
• Strong programming in Java and/or Python with solid OO design fundamentals.
• Experience building RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud-based applications.
• Experience with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL) and SQL optimization.
• Exposure to NoSQL databases, Elasticsearch, or other distributed data tech.
• Experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with AWS and infrastructure-as-code, and DevOps practices.
• Understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, containerization, and modern software practices.
• Ability to work in an agile, collaborative environment and communicate clearly.
• Curiosity, adaptability, and eagerness to learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for mission-critical capabilities.
• Build and enhance microservices and distributed systems with modern engineering practices.
• Work with relational and NoSQL databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL) focusing on performance and data integrity.
• Develop solutions using Kafka, Elasticsearch, AWS, and containerized environments.
• Contribute to cloud-native architecture and scale, availability, security, and reliability.
• Write clean, maintainable, tested, and well-documented code.
• Participate in code reviews and collaborate with engineers, product partners, and stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot complex issues and contribute to long-term solutions.
• Apply DevOps practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Learn new technologies and adapt across stacks as needs evolve.
• Take ownership from requirements through design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
