Job summary

Bluehost is hiring a backend engineer to own API features and server-side components. You’ll design, build, and maintain Python services on Linux, work with MySQL schemas, and troubleshoot production systems at scale.

You’ll leverage AI across development, debugging, tests, and code review, while collaborating with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to modernize legacy Perl components where applicable.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of backend development experience.
• Strong working knowledge of Python and Linux systems administration.
• Solid MySQL experience: writing queries, designing schemas, and diagnosing performance issues.
• AI - augmented delivery: familiarity with using AI across the delivery lifecycle and evaluating generated code.
• Experience in a collaborative, Agile development environment with real sprint discipline.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting ownership of production issues under pressure.
• Bonus: familiarity with Perl and with cPanel environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and internal APIs in Python, with ownership over the features you ship.
• Administer and troubleshoot Linux-based production systems, including performance tuning and root-cause investigation.
• Write, optimize, and maintain MySQL queries and schemas against high-traffic data.
• Use AI across the delivery lifecycle, review generated code for provenance and licensing.
• Ship reliable, well-tested features in partnership with senior engineers and cross-functional teams.
• Work across legacy and modern codebases, contributing to modernization of Perl-based components.
• Own production troubleshooting and contribute to on-call rotations.
