Job summary

BranchLab is seeking a backend-focused Software Engineer to join our Boulder-based team and help power our privacy-first, data-driven platform. You will work on backend services, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure to process anonymized healthcare data at scale.

You will collaborate with senior engineers, data scientists, and product teams to turn complex requirements into reliable production software, with opportunities to grow in distributed systems and ML-enabled pipelines.

Qualifications

• Strong Python development experience with backend services.
• Experience building backend APIs and services.
• Familiarity with SQL and relational databases.
• Experience with AWS and cloud-native architectures.
• Containerization with Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of CI/CD and modern software practices.
• Understanding of distributed data processing and systems.
• Ability to debug complex problems and learn new tech quickly.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend systems and APIs using Python.
• Develop distributed data-processing workflows using Spark and AWS EMR.
• Build and maintain workflow pipelines with Apache Airflow.
• Integrate machine learning models into production pipelines.
• Develop and operate containerized services using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Contribute to infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD systems.
• Write well-tested, maintainable production code.
• Troubleshoot issues across distributed systems.
• Improve reliability, scalability, security, and observability.
• Collaborate with engineering, data science, and product teams.
