Job summary

Uber is seeking a backend engineer in Seattle to design and own core services that track the custody of packages across the network—from pickup through hub sortation and final delivery. You will build scalable features used by merchants, drivers, and customers, and model event-driven data systems to support Uber's logistics platform.

You will write robust code on platform primitives, drive data-driven decisions, and own the reliability and monitoring of the systems you ship.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Golang, Java, or a similar OO language.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale.
• A track record of shipping high-quality products used by real customers.
• Willingness to own your products end-to-end – operations, maintenance, and reliability included.
• Experience collaborating across functions and leading cross-team efforts.
• Experience mentoring and guiding junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design and build the core services that track and orchestrate the movement of packages across the network.
• Build scalable, high-quality product features used daily by merchants, drivers, and customers.
• Model the domain and design event-driven systems and data models for long-term logistics use.
• Write maintainable code on Uber's platform primitives (Go, datastores, orchestration, streaming, RPC).
• Drive data-driven architecture and systems design decisions.
• Build reliable alerting and monitoring and own the systems' operations and on-call health.
• Collaborate across teams (Product, Design, Data, Operations) to ship end-to-end solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
