Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Backend Engineer (SDE2) to design and deliver scalable Java services that power our fulfilment platform. You will own mid-sized backend features, collaborate with product managers, and help shape the architecture of distributed systems.

The role emphasizes hands-on backend work, technical leadership, and cross-team coordination within a globally distributed engineering group, with hybrid work options and a strong DevOps culture.

Qualifications

• Experience building and supporting reliable distributed Java applications/products.
• Experience designing, developing and operating backend components or services.
• Exposure to agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
• Ability to support and collaborate with other engineers.

Responsibilities

• Build scalable, resilient Java-based backend services, APIs, and microservices to support fulfilment workflows and systems.
• Implement and ship end-to-end stories, with focus on backend integration where needed.
• Take ownership of medium-sized features and contribute to their design and delivery.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to understand problems and propose solutions.
• Write clean, maintainable code and participate in peer reviews to raise quality.
• Help onboard junior engineers and share knowledge across the team.
• Apply best practices and contribute to improving development processes and standards.
