Job summary

Astra is a remote-first company building mission-critical infrastructure for moving money at scale. We seek a Backend Engineer to design, build, and ship features across financial systems, including payments, fraud detection, and compliance, within a distributed microservices setup.

You will own features from design through production, integrate with banks and networks, and contribute to architecture decisions while improving performance and observability across our services.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building production backend systems.
• Independent delivery of features from requirements to production.
• Strong CS fundamentals: algorithms and data structures.
• Experience with distributed systems or microservices.
• Willingness to travel up to ~15% annually.

Responsibilities

• Own backend features end-to-end across payments, fraud, compliance, and user management.
• Integrate with banks, card networks, and third-party services for money movement.
• Contribute to design through architecture discussions and domain-driven design.
• Improve performance and reliability across microservices and tests.
• Collaborate with product and compliance to translate requirements into software.
