Job summary

Affirm is seeking a senior backend leader to guide the Identity team’s technical strategy and scale critical systems for international expansion from Spain. You will drive architecture decisions, collaborate with product, design, and analytics, and own on-call readiness.

You will work with Python or Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes to deliver reliable, scalable backend solutions while mentoring engineers across a global team.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend design, development, and launch at scale.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems.
• Proficient in Python or Kotlin.
• Strong communication with cross-functional teams.

• 8+ Years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin


• Extensive experience developing highly available distributed systems using technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes


• Experience delivering major features or system components, or deprecating existing functionality, through technical and execution planning


• Ability to write high-quality code that is easy for others to understand and use


• Comfortable working from low-level language idioms to large-system architecture in ambiguous environments


• Demonstrated ability to gather and iterate on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers


• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team

• Base pay range: €103,000 - €139,000 per year


• Visa sponsorship is available; candidates must be based in Spain
