Affirm is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Back-end, focused on Repayment Scheduling. The role is remote in Spain, within a Europe-based engineering team aligned with Silicon Valley practices.

You will own backend systems for high-scale payment automation, shipping iterative improvements every sprint and measuring impact on users and business metrics across 20M+ customers.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering significant features with clean, extensible design.
• Proven ownership of growth and willingness to seek feedback from your team and stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication to collaborate with a global team.

Responsibilities

• Own quarterly goals for the team and guide engineers through ambiguity to delivery.

Senior Software Engineer, Back-end, (Repayment Scheduling)

Remote Spain

The Repayment Scheduling engineering team is growing rapidly, and we're looking for a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Backend development. We're a Backend team located entirely in Europe within the same time zone, but culturally rooted in Silicon Valley. We build and own the system that enables our users to automate their payments, at a scale of up to $40B each year. We directly own the configuration and orchestration of those payments. We directly improve the financial lives of over 20 million people, giving them peace of mind that their payments will be made on time.

Our work is agile and fast-paced, shipping new code to production every two-week sprint, and rigorously measuring the impact it has on our users' lives and company financials. This role rewards curiosity, ownership, and a builder's mindset. You'll know exactly what your objectives are, you'll have what you need to hit them, and you'll choose your own path to get there. What You'll Do

• You will be responsible for owning and delivering quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers on your team through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and ensuring that everyone is supported throughout delivery.
• You will support your peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics by participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that properly consider risks and trade-offs.
• You will proactively identify project, process, technology or business issues, advocate for them, and lead in solving them.
• You will support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” & on-call efforts.
• You will foster a culture of quality and ownership on your team by setting or improving code review and design standards for your team, and advocating for them beyond your team through your writing and tech talks.
• You will help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example.
• On-Call Rotation - There would be an on-call rotation for this role as a requirement.

What We Look For

• You have 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• You have a track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• You have experience defining a technical plan for the delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple and extensible design. You write high quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
• You are proficient at making significant changes in a large code base, and have developed a suite of tools and practices that enable you and your team to do so safely.
• Your experience demonstrates that you take ownership of your growth, proactively seeking feedback from your team, your manager, and your stakeholders.
• You have strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with our global engineering team.

Base Pay Grade - N

Equity Grade - 4

Employees new to AFFIRM typically come in at the start of the pay range. AFFIRM focuses on providing a simple and transparent pay structure which is based on a variety of factors, including location, experience and job-related skills.

We are able to offer visa sponsorship for this role, but do require that someone is based in Spain for the role.

Location - Remote Spain
