Job summary

Camunda, the enterprise platform for agentic orchestration, is seeking a Backend Software Engineer on the Data Layer team. You will design and build the storage and query layer for Camunda 8, spanning PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, aiming for correctness, performance, and scale.

You’ll own end-to-end delivery, collaborate with Product, design, QA, and Support, and help evolve how we store and expose process data for our customers.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years of experience as a backend engineer with production data stores.
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL or Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Ability to design and implement scalable data storage and query solutions.
• Strong communication and collaboration in a remote-first environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain the data layer for Camunda 8’s process data across relational DBs and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Own end-to-end delivery of engineering initiatives, translating requirements into concrete designs.
• Evolve how we process, retain, and expose process data for customers.
• Improve secondary storage performance at scale and build production tooling.
• Participate in on-call rotations and coordinate with Support and SRE.
