Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Backend Software Engineer for Codex for Finance in San Francisco. You will build backend systems powering AI-native financial workflows, ingest and serve financial data at scale, and create secure integrations with data providers and enterprise systems.

You'll own end-to-end backend infrastructure, ensure reliability and security, and collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to ship production-ready capabilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, building and operating production backend systems.
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Go, Rust, or TypeScript.
• Experience with data-intensive apps, search/retrieval systems, or complex integrations.
• Strong product sense and ability to turn ambiguous problems into solid solutions.
• Ability to ship across the stack and cross org boundaries to deliver great products.
• High bar for reliability, security, privacy, and performance in enterprise settings.
• Interest in AI applications to professional work; prior financial services experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend systems powering AI-native financial workflows across OpenAI products.
• Ingest, index, retrieve, and serve financial data, filings, markets, and firm knowledge at scale.
• Create integrations with data providers and enterprise knowledge systems with secure auth/entitlements.
• Build systems enabling models and agents to access the right tools/data with provenance.
• Improve reliability, latency, observability, and production quality; develop evaluations for real workflows.
• Collaborate with financial institutions to understand needs and drive deployments.
• Partner with product, design, research, security, and other teams to scale capabilities.
