Job summary

HelloGov AI, Inc. in Miami is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join our on-site team. You will build production-ready features within an established architecture, focusing on scalable backend services, real-time communications, and API integrations powering our gov-tech platform.

You will collaborate with Engineering Lead and Front-End teams, design robust PostgreSQL schemas, and own features end-to-end from development through deployment in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and NestJS (or similar backend frameworks).
• Solid understanding of backend performance optimization and scalable system design.
• Ability to design, build, and maintain GraphQL and REST APIs.
• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL and relational database design.
• Knowledge of real-time technologies such as Socket.io, WebSockets, or similar frameworks.
• Familiarity with AI-powered applications, LLM integrations, and modern AI tools.
• Ability to integrate third‑party APIs into scalable backend systems.
• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively with global teams while being based in our Miami office.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Experience with Twilio services (Voice, TaskRouter, Sync, Studio, or Flex).
• Knowledge of Docker, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with Redis or other caching solutions.
• Preferred: 3+ years of professional experience with PHP

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services using TypeScript and NestJS.
• Design and maintain GraphQL and REST APIs.
• Implement real-time features with Socket.io and WebSockets.
• Build and maintain Twilio integrations for communication workflows.
• Collaborate with Front-End Engineers using Next.js to ensure seamless UX.
• Design efficient PostgreSQL data models and queries.
• Troubleshoot production issues and improve system reliability.
• Write clean, well-tested code and participate in code reviews.
• Estimate, plan, and deliver features with Product, QA, and Engineering teams.
• Take ownership from ticket to production deployment.
