Job summary

Ascend Analytics is seeking a Platform Engineer (Azure) in Boulder, CO with hybrid or remote work options. You will design, build, and operate the Azure cloud platform supporting PowerSIMM, PowerVAL, SmartBidder, BatterySIMM, and Market Intelligence—partnering with development, client teams, and security to migrate from on-premises hosting and maintain SOC 2 compliance.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
Azure certifications: AZ-104 or similar intermediate level.
4+ years in cloud platform, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering, with at least 3 years hands-on in Microsoft Azure.
Strong working knowledge of Azure IaaS and PaaS: VMs, App Services, Storage, Key Vault, Container Apps, Azure Batch.
Strong working knowledge of Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices.
Demonstrated Azure networking experience: VNet design, VPN gateways, private endpoints, NAT, DNS, and firewall rules.
Hands-on Entra ID administration: conditional access, MFA, SSO, app registrations, PIM.
Proficiency with PowerShell and KQL for automation and reporting.
Experience building CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps.
Ability to write clear technical documentation and communicate with non-technical stakeholders.
Certifications: AZ-104 or similar intermediate level certificate.

Responsibilities

Design, deploy, and maintain Azure resources: VMs, App Services, storage, file shares, key vaults, and more.
Build and maintain Azure networking (VNets, VPNs, private endpoints, NAT, Front Door).
Develop infrastructure as code with Terraform and Azure DevOps pipelines.
Configure and manage Azure Virtual Desktop host pools and published apps.
Maintain VM backup, monitoring, and alerting across environments.
Create and maintain Azure DevOps pipelines for builds, deployments, and promotion.
Support migration of workloads from on-premises to Azure.
Administer Entra ID and SSO credentials, with automated monitoring of secrets and certs.
Administer PIM, RBAC, and access reviews for client-facing platforms.
Deploy endpoint security tooling and support SOC 2 Type II audits.
Assist in onboarding clients and integrations; serve as escalation point for platform issues.
Produce network diagrams and maintain platform documentation; lead Azure architecture trainings.
Provide weekly status reports on priorities and blockers.
