Job summary

Howard University seeks a Cloud Engineer to design, deploy, and optimize a secure, scalable Microsoft Azure cloud backbone supporting institutional data and enterprise tech services. The role reports to the Chief Data and Analytics Officer and collaborates with data engineering, security, and application teams to ensure reliable operations and governance alignment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Information Systems, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field; at least 5 years of Azure cloud experience.
• Master’s degree in a related technical field; at least 3 years of Azure cloud experience; Azure certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain secure and scalable Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure.
• Manage Azure networking, compute, storage, and identity access management.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code for provisioning and config.
• Implement RBAC, encryption, secrets management, and governance.
• Monitor performance, availability, and security; troubleshoot issues.
• Support cloud-based data platforms, analytics environments, and integrations.
• Maintain documentation for cloud architecture, configurations, and procedures.
• Collaborate with security, data engineering, and business teams on initiatives.
• Evaluate new Azure capabilities to improve scalability and cost-efficiency.
