Job summary

Synectics for Management Decisions Inc in the Washington, DC area is seeking a Database Administrator to operate and maintain a hybrid cloud data environment for a federal government client, focusing on AWS pipelines, Redshift, and an open data portal.

The role entails hands-on DBA work, performance tuning, incident response, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to publish datasets and support new visualizations while ensuring security and SLA adherence.

Qualifications

• 3–7 years of experience administering data stores like Redshift or RDS
• Proficient SQL and scripting (Python) for automation
• Experience with data warehouses and performance tuning
• Experience in government or regulated environments with SLA deliverables

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain AWS workflows (Lambda, Glue, Step Functions, Redshift, RDS Postgres, SQL, S3)
• Perform ongoing database administration: tuning, patching, backup/restore, and general maintenance
• Manage open data portal/CKAN; publish datasets and support new visualizations
• Monitor platform health, logging, and alerts; incident triage and response
• Maintain and update SOPs, runbooks, and operational documentation
• Provide end-user support and training on database access and data tools
• Deliver SLA performance reports on pipeline success, incidents, data availability
