Job summary

The University of Utah Health is seeking an experienced Data Cloud Architect to lead the modernization of its data infrastructure by moving from on‑prem Oracle to a secure, scalable AWS cloud. This role requires residency in Utah and a hybrid work model with on‑campus days, focusing on building a cloud foundation from the ground up and guiding UAIR’s data initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus related experience.
• Experience migrating large-scale on-premises data warehouses to AWS.
• Experience with cloud services in education sector is a plus.
• Experience with Tableau or data visualization tools.
• Ability to work in a hybrid Utah environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, build, test and deployment of cloud architecture in AWS to support UAIR operations.
• Serve as the cloud architect subject‑matter expert for UAIR.
• Oversee the configuration and management of UAIR VPC and other networking configurations in AWS.
• Collaborate with the data management team ETL to deploy AWS ETL services such as Glue, AirFlow, Step functions, Lamda etc.
• Manage infrastructure for an on‑premises Tableau Server – connecting to AWS data.
• Work closely with UIT to establish and maintain a secure platform. Configure and deploy AWS IAM roles and polices to enable secure access.
• Oversee the enablement and support of UAIR operations in AWS SageMaker Unified Studio.
• Ensure redundancy and backup for all services.
• Use prior knowledge and creativity to troubleshoot and solve technical issues as they arise.
• Keep up to date with developments on current cloud computing solutions and processes.
