Job summary

Leggett & Platt Precision Hydraulic Cylinders is seeking a Certified Weld Engineer to lead welding engineering, automation development, and weld quality initiatives across our manufacturing processes. This role is essential in advancing our welding technology and ensuring the structural integrity of every cylinder we produce.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or related field, AWS certification, 3–5+ years of welding experience in manufacturing, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field.
• AWS certification required (CWI, CWE, or SCWI preferred).
• 3–5+ years welding engineering experience in manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of welding metallurgy, heat input, and process control.
• Experience developing and qualifying WPS/PQR/WPQ documentation.
• Working knowledge of AWS codes and weld inspection criteria.

Responsibilities

• Develop, qualify, and maintain WPS, PQR, and WPQ documentation per AWS standards.
• Provide engineering support for various welding processes and automated applications.
• Identify new welding technologies and weld monitoring tools.
• Lead implementation and validation of robotic welding systems and fixtures.
• Conduct weld design reviews focusing on joint design, heat input, metallurgy, and distortion.
• Ensure compliance with AWS codes, customer requirements, and PHC quality standards.
• Perform root-cause analysis and corrective actions for weld-related nonconformances.
• Support Lean/CI initiatives and optimize welding parameters and process flow.
• Train and coach welders and qualification testing.
