Job summary

Leggett & Platt’s Precision Hydraulic Cylinders seeks a Certified Weld Engineer to lead welding engineering, automation development, and weld quality initiatives across our manufacturing processes.

This role advances PHC’s welding technology, supports innovation, and ensures the structural integrity of every cylinder produced. AWS certification and a degree in welding engineering are required, with 3–5+ years of welding experience in manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or related field.
• AWS certification is required (CWI/CWE/SCWI).
• 3–5+ years welding engineering experience in manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of welding metallurgy, heat input, and process controls.
• Experience developing and qualifying WPS/PQR/WPQ documentation.
• Working knowledge of AWS codes and weld inspection criteria.

Responsibilities

• Develop, qualify, and maintain WPS, PQR, and WPQ documentation per AWS standards.
• Support welding applications including GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW and automation.
• Identify and evaluate new welding technologies and welding monitoring tools.
• Lead implementation and validation of robotic welding systems, fixtures, and automated processes.
• Conduct weld design reviews focusing on joint design, heat input, metallurgy, and distortion control.
• Ensure compliance with AWS codes, customer requirements, and PHC quality standards.
• Perform root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for weld-related nonconformances.
• Support Lean/CI initiatives and optimize welding parameters, tooling, and process flow.
• Train and coach welders and oversee qualification testing for welders.
