Job summary

Bridge Over Troubled Waters in Boston is seeking an Awake Overnight Residential Counselor to ensure safety and support for youth during overnight hours in a residential program.

The role requires staying awake, providing advocacy, crisis intervention, life skills coaching, and documenting progress, with a flexible schedule and weekend work.

Responsibilities include mentoring residents, coordinating with staff, and upholding the agency's commitment to diversity and respectful service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field is preferred.
• Minimum two years of experience working with adolescents or young adults.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Experience with homelessness, substance abuse, or related issues is preferred.
• Effective communication and crisis management skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor youth overnight, ensuring safety and adherence to program guidelines.
• Provide advocacy, referrals, crisis intervention, and supportive counseling as needed.
• Orient new residents to program rules and expectations.
• Assist residents in developing life skills, including cooking, socialization, and independent living preparation.
• Maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively with staff.
• Participate in staff meetings and contribute to a culturally sensitive environment.
• Serve as a liaison between the program and community resources.
• Ensure that all activities are conducted in a manner that shows respect for diversity and inclusion.
• Participate in weekly and quarterly program and staff meetings.
