Job summary

Allied World is seeking a Senior Product Owner for Data + AI underwriting capabilities to translate bold AI ambition into shipped features across submission triage, risk scoring, pricing, and portfolio management.

You'll partner with underwriting, actuarial, claims, and distribution leaders to identify high-value AI use cases and lead end-to-end product delivery from discovery through adoption, ensuring governance, explainability, and measurable ROI.

Qualifications

• 7+ years as a Product Owner / Product Manager with 3+ years shipping Data/Analytics/AI/ML products in regulated enterprises.
• Deep P&C Insurance domain expertise including underwriting, rate changes, loss ratio, submissions, portfolio mix, authority statements.
• Proven AI delivery track record moving GenAI, ML models, NLP, or agentic AI from POC to production at scale.
• Executive-level communication capable of briefing a CIO in three slides and writing engineers' user stories.
• Agile mastery including backlog ruthlessness, sprint discipline, and outcome focus.
• Technical fluency: SQL, Python, Databricks/AWS/Azure, Power BI, and LLM/AI platforms.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the product vision, roadmap, and OKRs for Data + AI underwriting capabilities, including GenAI copilots and insights ecosystem.
• Partner with Underwriting, Actuarial, Claims, and Distribution to identify high-value AI use cases and ship automation and risk analytics.
• Lead full product lifecycle: discovery, prioritization, user stories, sprint execution, UAT, launch, and adoption with engineering and data teams.
• Coordinate stakeholder communication; run monthly Data + AI product reviews with senior leaders.
• Champion Responsible AI: governance, explainability, data quality, and regulatory alignment.
• Define adoption metrics and ROI and track progress across the organization.

Job Summary

Underwriting is the heartbeat of P&C insurance — and at Allied World, we're reimagining it from the ground up with Data + AI at the core. This role is the single-threaded leader accountable for translating bold AI ambition into shipped capabilities that transform our end-to-end underwriting lifecycle — from submission triage and risk selection to pricing, portfolio steering, and bind. You won't be managing a backlog; you'll be shaping the future of how Allied World underwrites risk.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Vision → Value: Define and drive the product vision, roadmap, and OKRs for our Data + AI underwriting capabilities — including GenAI copilots, agentic workflows, predictive models, and the AIDA insights ecosystem (Broker 360, Client 360, Underwriter Analytics, Claims Analytics).

Underwriting Modernization: Partner with Underwriting, Actuarial, Claims, and Distribution leaders to identify and ship the highest-value AI use cases — submission intake automation, intelligent risk scoring, rate adequacy intelligence, exposure analytics, and broker engagement.

AI Product Delivery: Lead the full product lifecycle — discovery, prioritization, user stories, sprint execution, UAT, launch, and adoption — with engineering, data science, and design pods.

Stakeholder Orchestration: Be the voice of the underwriter to engineering and the voice of the platform to the C-suite. Run monthly Data + AI product reviews with senior stakeholders.

Responsible AI: Champion model governance, explainability, data quality, and compliance — partnering with Information Security, Enterprise Architecture, and Legal.

Measure What Matters: Define adoption, business value, and ROI metrics — and relentlessly track them.

Must-Haves

• 7+ years as a Product Owner / Product Manager, with 3+ years shipping Data, Analytics, or AI/ML products in a regulated enterprise.
• Deep P&C Insurance domain expertise — fluent in underwriting, rate change, loss ratio, submissions, portfolio mix, and authority statements.
• Proven AI delivery track record — GenAI, ML models, NLP, or agentic AI moved from POC to production at scale.
• Executive-grade communication — able to brief a CIO in three slides and write a user story engineers love.
• Agile mastery — backlog ruthlessness, sprint discipline, and outcome obsession.
• Technical fluency: SQL, Python, modern data stacks (Databricks, Azure, AWS), BI tools (Power BI), and LLM/AI platforms.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience modernizing underwriting workbenches, policy admin systems, or submission platforms.
• Certified SAFe / CSPO / Pragmatic PM.
• Exposure to Guidewire, Duck Creek, or comparable insurance platforms.

Education & Certifications

Bachelor's degree required; Master's in Computer Science, Data Science, MIS, Business Analytics, or related field strongly preferred. Agile Product Owner Certification (CSPO / SAFe POPM) highly preferred.

The below annualized base pay range is a broad range based on analysis of similar positions in the market. The actual base pay for the position may be above or below the listed range and determined by a number of considerations, including but now limited to complexity, location, and scope of the role, along with experience, skills, education, training, and other conditions of employment. Base salary represents one compensation of Allied World comprehensive total reward package, which may also include annual incentive compensation rewards.
