Job summary

Charter Oak is hiring an Assistant Vice President, Underwriting & Processing in Waterford, CT. The AVP leads consumer and mortgage underwriting and processing, ensuring timely closings and compliant loan files while driving quality and efficiency across the team.

Responsibilities include staff development, establishing service standards, and managing workflow with a focus on risk management and scalable operations within the credit union.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, economics, management, or related field required; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible consumer or mortgage lending experience with at least 3 years in managerial underwriting/processing roles.
• Demonstrated expertise in consumer and residential mortgage credit analysis, underwriting, documentation, processing, and pipeline management.
• Strong knowledge of credit union lending practices, policy, compliance, and investor requirements.
• Experience improving lending workflows and leading operational change.

Responsibilities

• Lead consumer and mortgage underwriting and processing, including performance, quality, risk management, and staff development.
• Establish service standards, controls, escalation procedures, and accountability across lending operations.
• Develop employees through coaching, cross-training, succession planning, and performance management.
• Manage workflow, capacity, service levels, and operational risk; serve as escalation point for complex issues.
• Coordinate with related teams to ensure timely closings, funding, and compliant loan files.
