Job description

Company Profile

The Carlyle Group (NASDAQ: CG) is a global investment firm with $485 billion of assets under management, across 678 investment vehicles as of June 30, 2026. Founded in 1987 in Washington, DC, Carlyle has grown into one of the world's largest and most successful investment firms, with more than 2,500 professionals operating in 28 offices in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.

Carlyle's purpose is to connect people, ideas, and capital to fuel growth for companies and performance for investors, which range from public and private pension funds to wealthy individuals and families to sovereign wealth funds, unions and corporations. Carlyle invests across three segments - Global Private Equity, Global Credit and Carlyle AlpInvest - and has deep expertise across industries, markets, and geographies.

At Carlyle, we believe that a wide spectrum of experiences and viewpoints drives performance and success. Our CEO, Harvey Schwartz, has stated that, "To build better businesses and create value for all of our stakeholders, we are focused on assembling leadership teams with the strongest insights from a range of perspectives." Reflecting this view, emphasis is placed on development, retention and inclusion through our internal processes and seven Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). We cultivate a culture where ideas are openly shared and challenged, connecting diverse expertise and perspectives to drive enduring value.

Position Summary

Carlyle is seeking an experienced content strategist, writer, and editor to join our Marketing team as AVP, Content Strategy. This role blends hands-on writing and editing with broader ownership of how content marketing campaigns translate Carlyle's investment strategy and business results across Carlyle's three global business segments - Global Private Equity, Global Credit, and Carlyle AlpInvest - into compelling, commercially astute, investor-facing content that feels native to the platforms where it appears.

Reporting to the Head of Content, this individual is a key member of the team responsible for helping to develop and execute Carlyle's content and digital marketing strategy worldwide. This person will also partner closely with business subject matter experts across investment teams to ensure that our content reflects timely, accurate, and compelling market perspectives that enable investment decision-making.

Leveraging expertise in copywriting, editing, and storytelling, the role will work closely with media peers, event marketing, internal and executive communications, and colleagues across Marketing, including social media, multimedia, digital experience and the creative studio.

In-Office Requirement:

4 days per week

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop, write, and edit high-quality marketing content across formats, including long-form articles and research, video and podcast scripts, email, social media, and in-person events, translating Carlyle's investment perspectives and business priorities into compelling narratives for institutional investors and wealth audiences (advisors, UHNW/HNW).
  • Help shape and execute Carlyle's editorial point of view and content strategy, including ownership of the editorial calendar, ensuring individual initiatives ladder up to consistent themes, audience priorities, and business objectives across segments and channels.
  • Develop deep fluency in Carlyle's investment strategies and market positioning across Global Private Equity, Global Credit, and Carlyle AlpInvest, using that knowledge to create content that informs, engages, and builds relevance with target audiences.
  • Stay current on social and digital platform norms, emerging formats, audience behaviors, and evolving content discovery, adapting Carlyle's voice and storytelling so content feels native to each channel while meeting brand and compliance standards.
  • Direct and develop freelance and contract writers who extend the in-house content team, including assigning work, providing developmental editing and brand voice direction, and ensuring consistently high editorial quality.
  • Lead the editorial strategy for complex and high-profile campaigns, defining the core narrative and ensuring it translates cohesively across content, creative, multimedia, social, and other audience touchpoints in support of clear business objectives.
  • Serve as an editorial lead across Content, Creative Studio, Multimedia, and Social Media, connecting disciplines and ensuring narratives, priorities, and execution remain aligned across channels.
  • Use audience insights and content performance data to identify opportunities, optimize content, and inform future editorial priorities and formats.
  • Partner closely with Legal and Compliance to navigate review requirements and ensure content meets applicable standards prior to publication.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to partners and stakeholders across the firm on storytelling, messaging, structure, and brand voice, constructively challenging and improving content where appropriate.
  • Support the Head of Content in advancing broader editorial priorities, team processes, and ways of working as Carlyle's content function continues to evolve and grow.
Requirements
Education & Certificates
  • Bachelors Degree, required
  • Concentration in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field, preferred
  • Certificate in Content Strategy, Project Management, or a related field is a plus.
Professional Experience
  • 6+ years of overall relevant experience, required
  • Experience in content marketing, journalism/editorial, or content operations within financial services, preferred
  • Proven experience writing and editing content marketing for institutional investors, financial advisors, and/or high-net-worth investors, with the financial and market fluency to translate complex investment concepts into compelling, differentiated narrative.
  • Track record of creating content that performs on social and digital platforms, with fluency in current platform norms, formats, and trends across channels such as LinkedIn, Instagram, and podcast/video.
  • Proven experience coordinating multi-channel content projects across teams that use different tools and systems, without formal management authority over those teams.
  • Experience developing and maintaining an editorial calendar or content strategy roadmap, translating business priorities into a coherent content narrative over time.
  • Demonstrated track record of solving cross-team roadblocks and reprioritizing competing workloads independently, rather than escalating routine conflicts to leadership.
  • Experience directing or managing the output of freelance or contract writers, including assigning work and providing developmental feedback.
  • Experience partnering with Legal and Compliance on regulated marketing content.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 tools (Lists, Teams, SharePoint) or comparable project-tracking systems (e.g., Monday.com, Kanban/Agile boards) is a plus.

  • Strong storytelling, writing, and copyediting skills, paired with genuine curiosity about markets and investment strategy and the judgment to translate complex ideas into a sharp, differentiated brand voice.
  • Strategic thinker who can define and evolve an editorial point of view and content roadmap, not just execute against a brief.
  • Creative instinct for what engages on social and digital platforms, with fluency in current trends, formats, and best practices, and the judgment to adapt them to Carlyle's brand and audience.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the judgment to know when to elevate versus resolve independently.
  • Diplomatic relationship-builder who can operate fluently across tools, teams, and seniority levels.
  • Ability to influence and operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving, matrixed environment.
  • Strong project coordination skills and experience working cross-functionally with global teams to prioritize and execute parallel projects.
