Job summary

Wellabe, Inc. seeks an AVP Actuary Valuation & Modernization to lead the actuarial function, establish reserves, and explain financial results for Wellabe entities. This role guides the annual audit, state exams, and ongoing modernization of actuarial processes.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of US statutory and GAAP valuation, strong leadership, and ability to communicate with executives. Hybrid work arrangements in Des Moines support collaboration and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with at least a minor in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or computer science.
• FSA designation strongly preferred.
• MAAA designation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversees the preparation and interpretation of actuarial data and related formulae; provides guidance on complex actuarial situations.
• Ensures compliance with statutory reserve requirements.
• Directs monthly/quarterly/annual close for actuarial items, including valuation of reserves for all Wellabe entities.
• Supports financial reporting and analysis for management and the board.
• Drives automation and AI to improve actuarial and reporting processes.
• Builds and leads a high-performing team of actuarial professionals.
• Collaborates with Accounting, Internal Audit, Risk, Modeling, and Data Asset Management.
• Partners with Finance/Legal on reinsurance accounting and disclosures; ensures valuation consistency.
