Job summary

Wellabe is seeking an AVP Actuary Valuation & Modernization to lead the actuarial function, establish proper reserves, and explain financial results for Wellabe entities. This role directs the annual audit, supports the quinquennial state exam, and drives modernization of actuarial processes to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines.

The role manages a small team (3–5 actuaries), collaborates across Finance, Accounting, and Risk, and provides thought leadership to the broader Finance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or computer science.
• FSA designation preferred.
• MAAA designation a plus.
• 7+ years’ actuarial experience with deep expertise in US statutory and US GAAP (LDTI) valuation, RBC, reserve governance, and controls.
• Experience with actuarial modeling software.
• Strong communication skills with senior management and boards.

Responsibilities

• Oversee preparation and interpretation of actuarial data and related formulae.
• Ensure compliance with statutory reserve requirements.
• Direct monthly/quarterly/annual close for actuarial items and valuation of reserves.
• Support financial reporting and analysis for management and the board.
• Drive automation and AI-driven improvements in actuarial processes.
• Build and lead a high-performing team of actuarial professionals.
• Collaborate with Accounting, Internal Audit, Risk, Modeling, and Data Asset Management.
