Avionics Technician (Soldering)

Description
As an Avionics Technician at Impulse, you’ll be responsible for assembling, modifying, and inspecting complex avionics components, including printed circuit boards (PCBs), harnesses, and connectors. Your work will directly impact the reliability and mission success of our Mira spacecraft built for orbit and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed soldering work on PCBs, cable assemblies, and electronic subassemblies in accordance with aerospace and military standards
- Assemble and install avionics components including wire harnesses, connectors, sensors, and RF systems
- Interpret and work from detailed engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and work instructions
- Inspect solder joints and assemblies using magnification tools to ensure compliance with workmanship standards
- Rework and repair components as needed using hot air tools, soldering irons, and other rework equipment
- Support cleanroom and ESD-sensitive operations following proper handling protocols
- Collaborate with engineers and quality assurance on issue resolution, process improvements, and documentation updates
- Record build data, complete travelers, and ensure traceability of parts and workmanship per aerospace standards
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 3+ years of experience using electrical and mechanical hand tools within a production environment
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience working on vehicles of any kind, such as cars, planes, rockets, spacecraft, drones, or boats
- 3+ years; of demonstrated avionics assembly or electronics manufacturing, with an emphasis on soldering
- Ability to adapt to changing work assignments and thrive in an agile work environment
- Self-motivated and excellent attention to detail
Preferred Skills and Experience
- 6+ years of demonstrated experience working on spacecraft or launch vehicles
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and teamwork skills
- Familiarity with multi-meters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, power supplies, hi-pot testers, or other electrical test equipment
Additional Information:
- Standing for long periods of time, climbing up and down ladders, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching are generally required to perform the functions of this position
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted
- Ability to distinguish colors is required
Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity.
