Job summary

Aerotek is seeking an Avionics Technician / Wire Harness Technician in Costa Mesa, CA to assemble, test, repair, and inspect wire harnesses and cable assemblies for military and defense applications. You will read schematics, follow IPC/quality procedures, and work on a day shift from 7:00 a.m.

Avionics Technician / Wire Harness Technician
Job Description

This role focuses on assembling, testing, repairing, and inspecting wire harnesses and cable assemblies used in electrical and electronic systems within a military and defense manufacturing environment. You will work on the day shift and use engineering drawings, schematics, and detailed work instructions to produce high-quality assemblies while following strict quality, safety, and ESD procedures. You will work a day shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and operate a variety of hand tools, crimping tools, wire strippers, and electrical testing equipment such as multimeters.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and electrical subassemblies according to engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.

  • Cut, strip, crimp, terminate, and route wires using hand tools and specialized equipment.

  • Install connectors, terminals, heat shrink tubing, cable ties, and protective sleeving on wire harnesses and cable assemblies.

  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, bills of materials (BOMs), and assembly instructions to ensure accurate builds.

  • Perform continuity, resistance, and functional testing using multimeters and other testing equipment.

  • Inspect completed assemblies to verify compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.

  • Troubleshoot and repair defective wire harnesses and cable assemblies to meet performance and reliability requirements.

  • Maintain accurate production records and documentation in accordance with manufacturing and quality procedures.

  • Follow ESD, IPC, quality, and safety procedures at all times while working in the production area.

  • Assist with process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, enhance quality, and reduce defects.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area in line with 5S standards.

Essential Skills
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification.

  • IPC-A-610 certification.

  • 5+ years of experience in wire harness, cable assembly, electronics assembly, or related manufacturing roles preferred.

  • Proven ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and assembly drawings.

  • Hands-on experience using hand tools, crimping tools, wire strippers, and electrical testing equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.

  • Basic computer skills for documentation and production tracking.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Experience with electronic assembly, mechanical assembly, and repair in a production environment.

  • Ability to follow ESD, IPC, quality, and safety procedures consistently.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in production, assembly, and troubleshooting of wire harnesses and cable assemblies.

  • Familiarity with mechanical assembly and the use of a variety of hand tools.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics accurately.

  • Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 and IPC-A-610 standards and best practices.

  • Experience performing crimping, stripping, and terminating operations on wires and cables.

  • Comfort working with electronic assembly processes in a manufacturing environment.

  • Exposure to 5S and continuous improvement practices in production settings.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Costa Mesa, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
