Senior Avionics Software Engineer US Citizenship Required

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Avionics Flight Controls Software Engineer to join a team developing safety- and mission-critical aerospace systems. This position is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in flight controls software, embedded systems, and DO-178-compliant development who enjoys working on complex technical challenges in a collaborative engineering environment.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development, integration, verification, and certification of advanced avionics software while working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams. Strong technical judgment, communication skills, and the ability to take ownership of complex software development efforts are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, integrate, and maintain embedded avionics software for flight controls applications.
  • Develop software in accordance with DO-178 and other applicable aerospace development and certification standards.
  • Apply software engineering best practices throughout the complete development lifecycle.
  • Work closely with systems, hardware, verification, and other engineering teams to develop and integrate safety-critical avionics solutions.
  • Analyze technical requirements and translate them into robust, maintainable software designs.
  • Participate in software architecture, design reviews, code reviews, integration, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Support software verification and validation activities as required.
  • Identify and resolve complex technical issues while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and certification requirements.
  • Contribute to project planning, estimation, documentation, and execution.
  • Demonstrate technical leadership and effectively collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline; equivalent professional development experience may also be considered.
  • Significant professional experience developing avionics flight controls software.
  • Strong proficiency in an object-oriented programming language such as C++, C#, or Python.
  • Experience with established software development methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, or similar processes.
  • Demonstrated experience developing embedded software to DO-178 standards.
  • Strong understanding of software development processes used in safety-critical and mission-critical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned responsibilities, and effectively manage competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with flight control systems and avionics architectures.
  • Experience supporting software certification and airworthiness activities.
  • Experience with software verification and validation for safety-critical systems.
  • Experience working across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements through integration and certification.
  • Familiarity with aerospace development standards and certification processes beyond DO-178.
