Job summary

Impulse Space in Redondo Beach is seeking an Avionics Operations Engineer to support manufacturing, streamline processes, and optimize layouts for electronic and optical hardware. The role is development-heavy, demanding rapid iterations and strict timelines.

You will own value stream mapping, KPI definition, data visualization, and Lean/Six Sigma initiatives, collaborating with Avionics Design and Test to move prototypes to full production while leveraging ERP/MES systems and cleanroom

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Extensive experience with ERP and MES systems.
• Extensive experience with creating dashboards and data visualization systems to track production processes.
• Experience with Siemens NX.
• 5+ years of demonstrated operations/industrial engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Own value stream mapping, capacity planning, productions floor layout to optimize material movement and manufacturing process flow of electronic and optical hardware, including PCBAs, harnessing, RF active and passive components, star trackers, solar modules and battery packs
• Develop data-collection and visualization tools for tracking the production process. Define and measure key metrics and KPIs to improve efficiency and quality
• Apply operational excellence methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen, etc.) to reduce cycle times, eliminate waste, and increase yield
• Ensure cleanroom facilities adhere to cleanliness and quality standards (AS9100)
• Partner closely with Avionics Design and Avionics Test to transition new avionics products from prototype development to full-scale rate production seamlessly
• Leverage MRP and ERP systems, and enterprise system teams, to make system enhancements
• Optimize and accelerate existing and novel manufacturing processes
• Work with the Avionics Manufacturing team to identify and resolve bottlenecks and pain points
• Support manufacturing capital projects, including setting up new facilities, automation efforts and new capability development
