The Avionics Installation Technician performs installation, modification, and upgrade work on avionics systems in business jet aircraft under the company’s polices and FAA regulations. This position is responsible for performing high-quality wiring, integration, and system installation tasks in accordance with engineering data, OEM specifications, and FAA regulations. The technician works within a skilled team to deliver safe, accurate, and on-time avionics installations.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform removal and installation of avionics components, wiring harnesses, antennas, and related equipment.
- Fabricate, route, and terminate wiring per engineering drawings, STCs, and OEM documentation.
- Install and secure connectors, backshells, and related hardware with attention to workmanship and quality standards.
- Conduct continuity, insulation, and operational checks to verify proper system function.
- Support integration of avionics systems such as GPS, COM/NAV radios, FMS, transponders, ADS-B, autopilot, and cabin Wi-Fi.
- Document work performed on task cards and work orders accurately.
- Maintain compliance with FAA Part 145, Part 43, and the Repair Station procedures.
- Assist with troubleshooting installation issues and coordinating solutions with the Install Lead and Avionics Manager.
- Follow all safety policies, maintain organized work areas, and ensure proper care of tools and equipment.
- Participate in ongoing training to maintain technical proficiency, regulatory compliance, and stay current with evolving avionics technologies and installation practices.
- Assist other departments as workload permits.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, installation drawings, and STC data packages.
- Skilled with standard avionics tools, crimping, soldering, and wire termination procedures.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small team under minimal supervision.
- Must supply own basic hand tools in good condition.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2–5 years of avionics installation experience within a Part 145, OEM, or similar setting. Relevant military experience is also acceptable.
- Experience with business jet aircraft (See capabilities list for requirements).
- Familiarity with major avionics systems (Garmin, Collins, Universal, Honeywell, Gogo and others as required).
- OEM or formal avionics installation training with the ability to read and interpret technical manuals and work instructions.
- Working knowledge of FAA regulations (Parts 43, 65, and 145) and standard maintenance practices.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- On-the-job training or OEM training on specific aircraft(s).
