Job summary

Hermeus is seeking an Avionics Electrical Engineering Intern to contribute to the design, testing, and integration of GNC, electrical hardware, control software, power distribution, and RF communications for next‑gen high-speed aircraft. The role spans spring and summer labs, with hands-on work across lab‑built subsystems, wire diagrams, and end‑to‑end subsystem testing.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Entry level experience with C++, C, or other embedded languages.
  • Experience with hardware integrations and embedded computers (Raspberry Pi, Arduinos, STM32).
  • Strong understanding of engineering first principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams.
  • Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus' mission.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • GPA of 3.0 or above.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct physical testing of subsystems and validate performance against requirements.
  • Develop and maintain detailed wire diagrams for subsystem integration.
  • Set up and configure hardware in lab environments for testing and validation.
  • Perform end-to-end subsystem testing, ensuring full integration of electrical, hardware, and software components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve integration issues.
  • Document test results, integration procedures, and system configurations.
  • Design and test custom electrical systems for ground test and flight applications.
  • Ensure seamless integration and compatibility at sub-system and integrated system levels.

About The Role:

As an Avionics Electrical Engineering Intern you will help shape the future of commercial supersonic and hypersonic flight. Our team is responsible for the design, testing, and integration of GNC systems, electrical hardware, control software, power distribution, and RF communications.

Spring: Around 16 weeks (January - April)

Summer: Around 12 weeks (May - August)

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct physical testing of subsystems and validate performance against requirements
  • Develop and maintain detailed wire diagrams for subsystem integration
  • Set up and configure hardware in lab environments for testing and validation
  • Perform end-to-end subsystem testing, ensuring full integration of electrical, hardware, and software components
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, electrical, and mechanical engineering) to troubleshoot and resolve integration issues
  • Document test results, integration procedures, and system configurations
  • You'll take charge of designing and testing custom electrical systems for both ground test and flight applications.
  • You will ensure the seamless integration and compatibility of your designs at the sub-system and integrated system level.
Requirements:
  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Entry level experience of C++, C, or other embedded programming languages.
  • Experience with working with hardware integrations and embedded computers (Raspberry PIs, arduinos, STM32s).
  • Strong understanding of engineering first principles

$25 - $33 an hour

The hourly rate listed for this internship is intended as a general guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on degree level.
