Job summary

Hermeus invites students to join the Mission Systems Engineering team as an intern for Spring or Summer, a 16-week or 12-week program, working across avionics, software, and system integration to build, test, and troubleshoot mission capabilities.

You will help integrate hardware and software, develop control and telemetry software, perform bring-up and debugging in lab, HIL, and aircraft environments, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Hands-on software and hardware integration experience from internships, coursework, research, projects, or competition teams.
• Programming experience in C++ and Python.
• Experience with embedded systems, avionics, sensors, networking, or other hardware-connected systems.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across hardware and software interfaces.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary technical teams.
• GPA of 3.0 or above.

About the Team:

The Mission Systems Engineering Team develops and integrates the hardware and software that enable Hermeus aircraft to execute missions.

As a Mission Systems Engineering Intern, you will work across avionics, software, communications, and system integration to help build, test, and troubleshoot mission capabilities. This role is ideal for someone with a strong mix of hands-on hardware experience and software development skills.

Spring: Around 16 weeks (January - April)

Summer: Around 12 weeks (May - August)

Responsibilities:

• Support integration and testing of mission hardware, software, sensors, radios, processors, and avionics systems.

Required Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with both software development and hardware integration through internships, coursework, research, projects, or competition teams.
• Programming experience in C++, Python, or a similar language.
• Experience working with embedded systems, electronics, avionics, sensors, networking, or other hardware-connected systems.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across hardware and software interfaces.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary technical teams.
• GPA of 3.0 or above

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Familiarity with networking or communication protocols such as TCP/UDP, Ethernet, CAN, RS-422, or ARINC.
• Experience with electrical schematics, wiring, electronics bring-up, or test equipment.
• Exposure to HIL/SIL, robotics, UAVs, aerospace, defense, Formula SAE, rocketry, or similar hands-on projects.

$25 - $33 an hour

The hourly rate listed for this internship is intended as a general guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on degree level.
