Job summary

GAT Airline Ground Support in Kenner, LA, is seeking an Airport Safety Manager to protect employee health and safety by controlling risks and exposures in the aviation workplace. You will oversee safety programs, train staff, observe ramp operations, and ensure compliance with SMS and health and safety laws.

The role involves coordinating with federal agencies and other contractors, reviewing accident reports, and providing guidance to ramp supervision.

Qualifications

• Must have experience in business planning and knowledge of the airline industry.
• Maintain strong working knowledge of safety, security, and compliance-related regulatory requirements as they pertain to aviation/airport operations.
• May be required to travel on short notice to other locations to perform audits.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Must possess excellent oral and written skills and can lead by example.

Responsibilities

• Provide safety training and support to employees by participating in station safety briefings and orientation.
• Inspect/observe under-wing operations to ensure health and safety best practices.
• Ensure personnel are provided with protective equipment such as face shields and gloves.
• Participate in counseling of employees not following safe practices.
• Cease operations when unsafe practices are observed.
• Oversee reporting and investigation of accidents, injuries and damage.
• Review accident reports to ensure all information is provided.
• Inspect equipment for safety and remove unsafe devices from service.
• Act as liaison with federal agencies, the airport, the customer, and other contractors.
• Remain knowledgeable of current airline industry legislation and health and safety standards.
• Provide information and guidance to ramp supervisory personnel on health and safety.
