Job summary

The Thrasher Group in Gastonia, NC is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Aviation team. You will contribute to runways, taxiways, and related airfield projects, applying civil engineering fundamentals to design, permitting, and construction support.

You will collaborate with PMs, clients, and design teams to deliver projects on time, while coordinating with FAA and regulatory bodies. A BS in Civil Engineering and 3–5 years of relevant experience are required; PE license is preferred or

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in land development, aviation, or related fields.
• PE license preferred, or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering design and support for aviation projects from concept through permitting and construction.
• Collaborate with project managers, clients, and design teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies, municipalities, utilities, and FAA representatives throughout design and permitting.
• Prepare and review permit packages for zoning, stormwater, environmental, and aviation-specific requirements, including plans, details, calculations, and reports.
• Develop bid and construction packages with plans, specifications, cost estimates, and permit documents.
• Oversee preparation of technical reports including assessments, preliminary engineering reports, SWPPPs, and airport layout plans.
• Provide guidance to staff engineers and review construction inspection reports for compliance with contract documents and FAA standards.
