Job summary

Ardurra is seeking an Aviation Engineering Intern to join our team in Blacksburg, VA for the summer of 2027. You will support engineering assignments that contribute to planning, design, and construction of airport infrastructure, gaining real-world experience and technical skills.

This role involves assisting with design components, specifications, cost estimates, field measurements, and on-site project support under supervision.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Exposure to AutoCAD or Civil 3D is preferred.
• Interest in airport design, FAA standards or transportation engineering is a plus.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and work ethic.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Team-oriented and able to work independently.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Bluebeam and Outlook.
• Accountability, communication, planning and personal development.

Responsibilities

• Assists with preparing plan details, outlines, and design components for airport infrastructure projects.
• Supports preparation of technical specifications and project documentation.
• Assists with researching design options and presenting findings to project managers or project engineers.
• Reviews design drawings within defined limits and contributes to quality control.
• Prepares sections of technical memoranda and assists with project reports.
• Performs material quantity take-offs and contacts vendors for budget quotes.
• Assists in developing construction cost estimates for aviation projects.
• Supports project managers by monitoring workload and documenting scope changes.
• Performs field tests, measurements and data collection for aviation design and construction.
• Assists with construction inspection and on-site representation during active seasons.
• Prepares daily field reports and contributes to construction oversight tasks.
• Assists with project communications and client interactions under supervision.
• Provides miscellaneous project support to meet deadlines and client expectations.
