Job summary

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer – Aeronautical Systems to join the Electrical Engineering unit at 4 WTC in New York. You will lead electrical design for aviation facilities, supervise teams, and ensure projects meet cost, schedule, and quality targets.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 12 years of professional design experience in aeronautical electrical systems for aviation facilities.
• Experience preparing contract documents, drawings, and specifications (power distribution, diagrams, layouts).
• Knowledge of aviation infrastructure, electrical design for terminals, substations, power distribution, lighting, and related systems.
• Proficient in electrical calculations (short circuit, voltage drop, load studies).
• Working knowledge of NEC, FAA circulars; strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and review aeronautical Contract Documents (drawings, specs, cost estimates).
• Lead engineers to produce constructible documents meeting client needs within schedules and budgets.
• Review conceptual designs and provide design alternatives with costs.
• Ensure safety, reliability, and economic viability of aeronautical electrical systems.
• Coordinate with other disciplines, facilities, utilities, and consultants.
• Guide field commissioning and testing of aeronautical electrical systems.
