Overview

At Jacobs, the Aviation Team in NY/NJ is growing and seeks an experienced Aviation Electrical Engineer to support airfield engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and oversee electrical systems for airfields, including lighting, navigation aids, power distribution, and communication systems.
  • Develop airfield lighting systems (runway, taxiway, approach lighting, signage).
  • Design navigation aids such as ILS, VASI, and PAPI.
  • Develop power distribution including lighting vaults, backup power systems, and energy‑efficient solutions.
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA, ICAO, EASA, and local building codes.
  • Conduct site surveys, assess existing infrastructure, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with architects, civil engineers, and project managers to integrate electrical systems into overall designs.
  • Perform load calculations, short‑circuit analysis, and power quality assessments.
  • Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning to meet design specs and operational requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during design, construction, and operational phases.
  • Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and project documentation for stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
  • Stay updated on advancements in airfield technology, sustainable energy solutions, and electrical engineering practices.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Substantial professional experience in electrical engineering with knowledge of airfield design.
  • EIT certification required; PE license in NY/NJ preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars and airfield design requirements.
  • Experience with NY/NJ & PANYNJ aviation standards.
  • Proven experience designing airfield lighting, navigation aids, and power distribution systems.
  • Strong attention to detail regarding complex electrical design.
  • Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, Revit, or ETAP.
  • Experience using Bluebeam Sessions for drawing markup and quality control.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, CoPilot).
  • Ability to work fast‑paced, effectively communicate with project team and clients, read and interpret red‑line drawings, work collaboratively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and demonstrate planning and problem‑solving skills.
