Job summary

Ahold Delhaize USA, part of a global food retailer, is seeking an experienced Captain for the ADUSA Aviation Department to ensure safe and efficient air transportation for executives and passengers. The Captain oversees flight operations, planning, maintenance status, crew management, and regulatory compliance.

The role requires 4+ years of domestic PIC experience, ATP, FAA medical, and strong leadership. Core locations include Salisbury, NC with a hybrid schedule (3 in-person days, 2 remote).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable FAR Part 91 flight operations experience.
  • Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate.
  • Valid FAA Class I or II Medical Certificate.
  • 4+ years of domestic PIC experience in corporate or commercial aviation.
  • 4,000 total flight hours and 2,000+ hours multi-engine turbo jet.
  • 3+ years on Cessna Citation XLS+ (or similar) aircraft.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe flights through pre-flight checks and in-flight decisions.
  • Plan routes, calculate fuel, weight and balance, and coordinate with maintenance.
  • Lead and manage flight crew as PIC, ensuring training and qualifications.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and safe operation of aircraft.
  • Communicate with executives and vendors to support travel.
  • Control flight costs while maintaining safety and efficiency.

Overview

Ahold Delhaize USA, a division of global food retailer Ahold Delhaize, is part of the U.S. family of brands, including Food Lion, Giant Food, The GIANT Company, Hannaford and Stop & Shop. This role is within the ADUSA Aviation Department. The Captain ensures safe and efficient air transportation for executives and passengers, overseeing flight operations, planning, maintenance status, crew management, and regulatory compliance. The Captain is the company’s representative to passengers and must act with tact and decorum while ensuring an efficient and safe operation. This position requires expertise, experience, quick decision-making, strong management and communication skills to coordinate with stakeholders. By providing secure travel and upholding regulations, the Captain contributes to the organization’s reputation and operational success.

Work schedule: Our flexible/hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Core locations include Salisbury, NC. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities
  • Ensuring Safety: As the ultimate authority, ensure safe flights through pre-flight checks, in-flight decisions, and risk mitigation. Stay updated with regulations, technologies, and best practices to protect passengers, crew, and the organization’s reputation.
  • Flight Planning: Plan routes, calculate fuel needs, and consider factors like weather and airspace restrictions using software and experience. Review and calculate aircraft weight and balance, fuel on board and performance charts. Communicate fuel needs to maintenance personnel by 4:00 p.m. the day before a flight. Make decisions to start, delay, or cancel flights and deviate from planned routes when conditions dictate.
  • Managing Crew: When acting as Pilot in Command, lead and manage assigned flight crew, ensuring all crew are trained and qualified, using task delegation and promoting teamwork.
  • Aircraft Maintenance: During pre-flight inspections, ensure maintenance is compliant with regulations and standards; collaborate with maintenance personnel to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Communication: Communicate with executives, aviation personnel and outside vendors using specialized equipment and protocols, maintaining effective communication for safety and efficiency, and fostering relationships.
  • Decision-Making: In rapidly changing situations, make critical in-flight decisions using experience, training and situational awareness to ensure flight safety and efficiency.
  • Cost Management: Manage flight costs while prioritizing safety and efficiency, using tools to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent service to passengers, ensure the aircraft is clean and prepared, comply with schedules, and support passenger needs to streamline executive travel.
  • Additional duties may be assigned to meet business needs and support company values.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable FAR Part 91 flight operations experience
  • Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate
  • Valid FAA Class I or II Medical Certificate
  • 4+ years of domestic experience as PIC in corporate or commercial aviation, or as determined by the ADUSA Aviation Chief Pilot
  • Extensive flight experience, including 4,000 hours total and a minimum of 2,000 hours multi-engine turbo jet
  • 3+ years of experience on Cessna Citation XLS+ (or similar) operated by RBS Aviation, or as determined by the Chief Pilot
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Broad knowledge of aircraft operations functions
  • Thorough knowledge of advanced aircraft systems and avionics
  • Familiarity with FAA FAR Part 91 and ICAO Annexes (Differences)
  • Knowledge of aircraft scheduling, including mobile technology applications
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, iPad, and related software
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Safety Management System processes, including risk analysis and mitigation, human factors and accident/incident prevention
Salary & Benefits

ME/NC/PA/SC Salary Range: $108,880 - $163,320

Actual compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on qualifications, experience, internal equity, and market conditions. Final compensation decisions will be made in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
