Job summary

Universal Avionics in Tucson, AZ is seeking a Director of Engineering to unite AI, software, systems engineering and image processing into aircraft-ready solutions. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, influence product direction, and translate emerging ideas into reliable technologies for real-world aviation.

This onsite leadership role requires executive communication, strong architecture judgment, and the ability to balance innovation with aerospace constraints.

Qualifications

• Leading multidisciplinary engineering organizations and developing strong technical leaders.
• Experience with aviation, avionics, aircraft systems, or airborne product development.
• Practical depth across AI/ML, software, systems engineering, computer vision, or image processing.

Responsibilities

• Set and communicate technical direction across AI/ML, software, systems engineering, computer vision, and image processing.
• Guide architecture and complex engineering decisions balancing innovation with aircraft constraints, reliability, safety, and priorities.
• Lead integration of software, hardware, sensors, interfaces, and aircraft-level systems into cohesive solutions.
