Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is currently seeking a skilled AV technician to install and test low-voltage systems across commercial sites in Spokane. You will read blueprints and install alarms, CCTV, access control, and cabling, ensuring compliance with codes and customer requirements.

The role requires a high school diploma, 3+ years of experience in AV/low voltage, relevant certifications when possible, and a valid driver’s license. Travel to job sites is expected and independence is essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of AV/low voltage/fire and life safety experience as apprentice or technician.
  • EL06 license required.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record, if driving role.
  • Strong working knowledge of AV, cabling, alarms, access control, CCTV, and low-voltage systems.
  • Ability to work independently and complete standard installation jobs without direct supervision.
  • AQSC Certification, Avixa/CTS Certification, Extron, ETCP preferred.
  • Experience with commercial AV systems and integrated low-voltage platforms preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install AV equipment and test performance; perform cable pulling and termination.
  • Maintain and test AV equipment and cabling.
  • Install, test, and commission alarms, access control, CCTV, and related low-voltage systems.
  • Manage cabling, connectivity, and system integration.
  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, system layouts, and manuals.
  • Install components per project specifications and ensure proper wiring.
  • Test functionality and ensure compliance with codes and customer requirements.
  • Troubleshoot issues and complete corrective actions.
  • Document installation work orders and project reports.
  • Communicate progress with customers and team members.
  • Follow safety procedures and customer site requirements.
  • Travel to job sites as required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Install AV equipment (e.g., speakers, projectors, displays) and test for expected performance, perform cable pulling, termination techniques, and use best practices.
  • Perform routine maintenance and testing of AV equipment and cabling.
  • Perform installation, testing, and commissioning of alarms, access control systems, CCTV, and related low-voltage security systems.
  • Manage cabling, connectivity, and system integration.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, system layouts, and technical manuals.
  • Install system components including devices, panels, wiring, and associated hardware according to project specifications.
  • Test and verify proper system functionality and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Troubleshoot installation issues and complete corrective actions in a timely and professional manner.
  • Use hand tools and testing equipment to complete installation work efficiently and safely.
  • Complete installation documentation, work orders, and project reports accurately and on time.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, team members, and supervisors regarding job progress and project status.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and customer site requirements.
  • Travel to job sites as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in the AV, low voltage, or fire and life safety industry as an apprentice or technician.
  • EL06 License required.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various environments.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
  • Work performed in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
  • Exposure to varying conditions including heights, confined spaces, and active job sites.
  • Use of hand tools and testing equipment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
Pay Range

$40K - $90K annually DOE
