Job summary

The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking an experienced Media Systems Engineer to design, maintain, and program classroom media system technology. You will support installations from design to commissioning and help ensure robust, reliable technology in teaching and learning spaces.

Responsibilities cover AV-over-IP, DSP programming, networking, and system integration. A strong emphasis on collaboration with vendors, staff, and contractors helps advance campus-wide AV standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; six years of related experience may substitute.
• Two years of full-time experience interfacing with AV, projection, control, and distribution systems.
• Experience interfacing with audio-video, projection, control, and distribution systems.
• Experience with the mechanical process of installing equipment, including mounting, hanging, and assembling systems.
• Ability to fabricate custom cables.
• Experience managing audiovisual installation projects from design to commissioning.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Install and terminate cabling; build and wire AV racks; configure DSPs and AV-over-IP networks.
• Lead commissioning activities, including calibration, DSP tuning, end-to-end testing, documentation, and resolution of deficiencies.
• Work with team members to install and terminate cabling (HDMI, SDI, CAT6/7, fiber).
• Design scalable AV systems and program control processors; integrate networking requirements.
• Participate in meetings with vendors and supervise contractor installations.

Education

Bachelor's degree

Six years of directly related full-time experience

Two years of full-time experience interfacing with audio-video, projection, control, and distribution systems

Q-SYS Training

AutoCAD/Star Draw or similar AV drafting

AVIXA CTS Certification

AV over IP / multicast / Dante exposure
