Job summary

Extron is seeking an AV Systems Design Engineer to support its well-established network of professional audiovisual consultants and integrators. This customer-facing role blends advanced AV system design expertise with technical sales responsibilities.

The AV Systems Design Engineer works closely with Extron customers to develop system designs, deliver product and applications training, identify new project opportunities, and influence product specifications.

Qualifications

• 5+ years designing professional AV systems.
• Ability to translate technical information into clear customer benefits.
• Experience delivering technical presentations or training to groups.
• Strong relationship-building and consultative communication skills.
• Experience conducting onsite commissioning and troubleshooting AV systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred.
• CTS/CTS-D or CCNA/Network+ certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist consultants and integrators with the development of Extron AV system designs and documentation.
• Review AV system requests for proposals, drawings, and specifications to develop accurate bills of material.
• Recommend appropriate Extron products and system architecture based on customer requirements.
• Provide commissioning support for advanced Extron AV solutions.
• Serve as an escalation resource for troubleshooting complex AV systems.
• Conduct on-site product demonstrations and technical presentations.
• Regularly engage with Extron consultants, integrators, and end-user customers to build relationships and support business development.
• Identify new projects and sales opportunities through customer discussions, design consultations, training sessions, and site visits.
• Maintain awareness of active projects, customer requirements, competitive products, and emerging AV technologies.
• Document identified projects, customer activity, and follow-up actions in the company’s customer relationship management system.

Position Overview

Extron is looking for an AV Systems Design Engineer to support its well-established network of professional audiovisual consultants and integrators. This customer-facing role combines advanced AV system design expertise with technical sales responsibilities.

The AV Systems Design Engineer works closely with Extron customers to develop system designs, deliver product and applications training, identify new project opportunities, and influence product specifications. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted technical advisor who helps customers select Extron solutions while supporting opportunities from initial design through commissioning and project completion.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to translate technical information into clear customer benefits and practical system recommendations.
• Experience delivering technical presentations, product demonstrations, or training to small and large groups.
• Strong relationship-building, consultative communication, and presentation skills.
• Experience conducting onsite commissioning and troubleshooting AV system installations.
• Ability to manage multiple customer engagements, projects, and follow-up activities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or Visio is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field is preferred.
• CTS, CTS-I, or CTS-D certification is a plus.
• CompTIA Network+ or CCNA certification is a plus.
• Travel up to 40% is required. Travel includes local customer meetings, site visits, and occasional domestic air travel.

Salary range: $130,000-$150,000. Pay may vary depending on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
