Job summary

Socket.dev seeks an Engineering Technician III for on-site work at Johnson Space Flight Center in Houston. The role involves installing, maintaining, and upgrading IT and conference room systems, and performing diagnostic analyses to ensure high-quality operations.

Responsibilities

• Installing, cabling, supporting, and maintaining IT and conference room equipment for legacy and new installations.
• Perform technical analyses of software, hardware, and transmission equipment using diagnostic tools.
• Provide end-user support to a large VIP customer with strong service standards.
• Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and patching of conference room equipment.
• Support root-cause analysis for conference room incidents.
• Troubleshoot network, VOIP, and conference room equipment issues to SLA.
• Document work and analyze solutions using standard procedures.
• Complete tasks with moderate guidance and direction.

Job description

The Engineering Technician III performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. This technician performs at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as:

a. Constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions;

b. Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.

c. Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data;

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Installing, cabling, supporting, and/or maintaining IT equipment and audio-visual conference room equipment for both legacy and new installations. Evaluating and recommending necessary product maintenance activities and upgrades.
• Performing technical analyses of conference room software, hardware and transmission equipment using various diagnostic tools in support of efficient operations. Monitoring data traffic and controls network resource performance to ensure high-quality transmission.
• Demonstrating a high level of customer service, professionalism, end-user support to a large VIP customer.
• Perform preventative maintenance inspections and ongoing patching of conference room equipment.
• Support root cause analysis activities of conference room incidents.
• Identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving technical problems related to network failure/integrity and usage of PC hardware and software including conference room displays, controllers, Crestron devices, AMX, Cisco, and other conferencing devices.
• Utilizing existing knowledge while building additional knowledge of the company, client, and processes.
• Resolving work orders for Network, VOIP, and conference room equipment. Resolving incidents according to service level agreements for IT and AV equipment.
• Analyzing possible solutions using standard procedures.
• Completing work with a moderate level of guidance and direction.
• Solving standard problems by analyzing possible solutions using experience, judgement, and precedents.
• Working within guidelines and policies.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills that will enable communicating information to all levels from level 1 technicians to VIP customer stakeholders.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Experience with 70 volt indoor/outdoor Public Address (aka PA) systems.
• Licensed driver qualified to drive GSA owned vehicle to include 12” box trucks.
• Required to be on-site at Johnson Space Flight Center during business hours.
• AA or AS + 4 years experience
• Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to resolve situations in a professional manner
• Ability to obtain Public Trust Clearance
